Muse-ic Mondays: Issue 18

Skins update: I just finished watching Season 2 of Skins and it was a lot darker and grittier than the first, although equally as amazing. Plenty of drama, dark humour and dizzying dilemmas to go around. Fantastic stuff, really.

But what does this have to do with music, you ask? It was a pleasant surprise to spot canuck musicians Born Ruffians and Crystal Castles performing in two of the episodes. Canadian music for the win!

I always love me some homegrown talent. On that note, check out TheHumbleEmpire on YouTube for some great acoustic performances by various Canadian artists in Toronto's Trinity Bellwoods Park — including Luke Lalonde, lead singer of the aforementioned Born Ruffians:

Enjoy!

Muse-ic Mondays: Issue 17

Let's cut to the chase: The Runaways is an excellent movie. Sure, there are countless angles a filmmaker could take in documenting the rise of an all-girl rock band, but I quite fancied music video maven Floria Sigismondi's approach. It's a gritty, provocative film with its fair share of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle and impressive acting to boot.

Special kudos to Dakota Fanning for a surprisingly brilliant performance. Jailbait indeed.

At the very least, you'll have "Cherry Bomb" stuck in your head for about a week. Not too shabby.

Hello daddy,
Hello mom,
I'm your ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb!

Just give'r

I recently came across these "Great Reasons to Smoke" videos featuring Dean and Terry of Fubar fame. They're part of an anti-smoking campaign put on by the Nova Scotia Office of Health Promotion and they're quite hilarious:

As it stands, Plan B is to just keep on smokin'.

p.s. Fubar 2 is currently in production and is set to hit theatres next winter.
